  8.  This program (Mac HFS Disk Reader [aka "MacRead])
  9. was originally written to fill a specific nitch
  10. in my current buisness.I needed to transfer Postscript
  11. print files and some TIF files from a MAC to my TT.
  12.  I must admit though,that I myself did not write this
  13. program.(Software aint my thing)
  14.  It was done for me (at a price that I could afford)
  15. by a friend and darn good programmer whose name shows 
  16. up at the top of the first screen.(his company name is
  17. REEVsoft,and his quick work saved my behind)
  18.  I will tell you up front that this version has a few
  19. problems.File sizes over 14mb can choke,there is no
  20. checking for free HD space at the path you specify.
  21. It will only READ FROM a mac formatted scsi/dma HD,or
  22. a SPECTRE formatted floppy disk.(HFS of course)
  23. and sometimes SQ555 formatted with odd drivers choke,
  24. but PLI drivers are OK. The program is a keyboard driven
  25. TOS file. Well we cant all be perfect.(at a price I can
  26. afford)
  27.  We (Compu-Seller West)originally (January 1992) sent
  28. a copy of this program to a company in California,
  29. who was interested in purchasing the rights
  30. in order to build it into a module for
  31. one of their programs already beginning to show up in the
  32. market place. They were all RUSH-RUSH to get them the
  33. software to evaluate and send overseas for "tweeking"
  34. and the necessary improvements.
  35.  Well time passed,and I had a chance to attend the ACE
  36. show this year, and to my surprise I saw My software for
  37. SALE by the California Company.In the original form that
  38. it was sent to them by me in january ! they called it
  39. "MACREAD". I was there to help them at the show to handle
  40. sales because they could not accept charge cards.
  41. NOTICE .. ALL SALES PROCEEDS WERE HANDED OVER TO THEM
  42. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE SHOW - COMPU-SELLER WEST DID NOT
  43. RECIEVE ANY MONIES FOR ANY SALES OR HELP GIVEN.
  44.  In fairness I talked to the VP of their company and
  45. he promised compensation would be forthcoming immediately.
  46. They sell a piece of hardware that I wanted to get,and
  47. had originally [jan92] requested [plus x amount of dollars
  48. worth of software/hardware/cash]if they wanted the prg.
  49.  Again time had passed...So my programmer friend and I
  50. decided to redo the program and give it some new features
  51. like a gem interface,transfers TO and FROM HFS disks,
  52. multiple file transfers without re-running program,
  53. transfers with and without translations,unlimited file 
  54. sizes,and more accurate error trapping. I personally
  55. spoke to the VP again and told him that what we were
  56. intending to do, and I was sending a letter officially
  57. stating our intentions.

  62. situation, and as it turned out they refused to accept
  63. my letter in the mail.The letter is now being posted
  64. along with this software and text file.
  65. Perhaps NOW they will read it....I thought I was being
  66. pretty nice about it.................So thats why we
  67. decided to release the original version into the public
  68. domain.
  69.  We would like to reward those people who purchased this
  70. program by offering an upgrade to the new version "MacSEE"
  71. for 5 dollars plus your original program disk and manual
  72. and a copy of your receipt.(sorry we cant refund your
  73. purchase price, we never saw your money!)

  97. Double click on the file MACHFSRD.TOS
  98.  
  99. The first menu should appear requesting device choice
  100.  
  101. next scanning occurs for HFS format on selected device
  102.  
  103. if HFS not found, program aborts to desktop
  104.  
  105. if HFS found, root directory is displayed and you are
  106. given choice to move to new directory or choose file
  107. to transfer
  108.  
  109. next destination is requested for file xfer to an ATARI
  110. formated disk (FD/HD)
  111.  
  112. once transfer complete, program aborts to desktop
  113.  
  114. Thats all thats to it...
